The phrase “custom bathroom” might not excite everyone. But given how much time we spend in the shower, on the toilet, or fighting with family members for bench space, isn’t time we put a bit more love into our bathrooms?
That’s why a custom designed bathroom (or ensuite) might be what you need in your new home. So check out our design hints, FAQs and examples of actual client homes below. And if you’re feeling inspired, check out more custom home designs or reach out to our team for a free design consultation.

On the taller side
The standard height of a shower head is 1.8m (around 5″10). So if you’re a tall person, you may want to consider raising it to 2m. Alternatively, a rail shower like the Alder Excite is popular because you can adjust the height as you need.
On the shorter side
Alternatively, those with a shorter stature may need to be careful choosing top of the counter basins. A standard bench height is 943mm, so extra tall basins could a bit more uncomfortable to reach.
Where’s the shampoo?
Forget leaving bottles on the floor or in a rusty shower caddy! Built in shelves and recesses are one of our most requested items because it gives you more floor space (and they look amazing!).
Mind the gap
Have you ever noticed a gap between the shower and vanity? Not all bathrooms have one, but if yours does, it will be a pain to clean the small gap. Consider moving the bathtub so it’s next to the shower or adding in a nib wall (which can also be used as a shelf).
FAQs about Custom Bathrooms
Can I design my own bathroom?
Absolutely! Many of our clients look at our standard plans and then draw their changes on top. Otherwise, you can write a list of all the items you want and our drafting team will create your future home.
Can I customise my vanity cabinets?
Every vanity cabinet in our homes is created right here in Perth by Coastline Kitchens. In fact, they manufacture and partially assemble the cabinets in their Rockingham factory, so there’s none of that low-quality flat pack crap. It also means that we can easily customise the style and height if needed.
Is it easy to change plumbing after it's installed?
No, especially if you plan on making changes to your floor. For example, adding in a bathtub will require removing your floor tiles, drilling into the slab, and inserting waste disposal. So in other words, it’s important to plan everything now cos it’s hard to make changes later!
Are big floor tiles a good idea in a bathroom?
Bigger floor tiles will cost extra in a bathroom because your tiler will need to cut more tiles. Plus, tiles will need to be angled so water can drain away. Not sure what we mean? Take a look at the tiles around your drain and you should see them sloping downwards. A large 600x600mm tile will need to be broken so water can easily drain.
