There are many things to consider when moving homes. That’s why we’ve created this Moving Home Checklist to assist you in preparing for your big day!
One month before the move
- Schedule internet to be activated in your new home
- Contact the local council for delivery of waste collection bins
- Arrange home insurance for your new home (your bank may require this to release funds)
- Advise land developer to install front landscaping (if applicable)
3 weeks before the move
- Order and collect boxes to begin packing
- Buy packing tape, black markers to write on boxes, and bubble wrap for your fragile items
2 weeks before the move
- Book removalists or rental vehicles and arrange for family and friends to help if necessary
- Arrange for the redirection of mail (through Australia Post)
1 week before the move
- Ensure any outstanding variations are paid (e.g. pre-start variations)
- Arrange disconnection of water, gas and electricity at your existing address
- Organise change of address notification:
- Drivers licenses and car registrations
- Health Funds
- Financial (e.g. Bank, Accountant)
- Family & friends
- Magazine subscriptions and home deliveries
- Electoral Roll
- Medical (e.g. GP, Dentist, Orthodontist)
- School/Work
- Gym memberships
- Store memberships and loyalty programs
The day before the move
- Disconnect your washing machines and fridge
- Dismantle furniture where possible
Moving Homes Day
- Complete a quick vacuum and mop of floors to eliminate any builders dust
- Distribute house keys to all household members
- Start unpacking and enjoy the first night in your brand new home!
