Tile Sizing

Smaller tiles (300x300mm) are the best option in wet areas such as bathrooms and laundry. This is because it is easier to create a slope for water drainage and fewer tiles need to be cut. In contrast, larger tiles (450x450mm or 600x600mm) are more suitable for living areas where there is a bigger space to cover. Larger tiles look expansive and can make your space look bigger.

Tile Finish

Floor Tiles have different finishes such as Matte, Glossed, Polished, Textured and more. Each has a different appeal that can set the tone of your space. In choosing the right tiles for your home, make sure to choose from a collection that fits the location, such as slip-resistant matte tiles for bathroom installation and waterproof flooring glossy tiles for kitchen installations.

FAQs about Tiles

What grout colour do I choose?

Most people choose a grout colour that complements their tile’s tone. But sometimes a bold tile needs a contrasting grout to stand out, such as a white subway tile with black grout. Move Homes has partnered with Crosby Tiles who match every tile selection with a grout colour that works best.

Why are 600x600mm tiles more expensive than 450x450mm?

More labour is required for a larger tile. Not only are they heavier to lay, but they need to be cut to fit with the room dimensions.

What are the advantages of a tiled floor?

Tiles are hard wearing and when laid by a professional, will not come loose. They come in a variety of shapes and colours that can be used along walls (think of a bathroom with the floor tiles laid on the wall).

What are rectified tiles?

You can choose to have your tiles come in a rectified finish. This means that the tiles are laid so close to each other, and you can hardly see the grout. This style is very popular in modern homes that want to have continuous looking floors which create an expansive feeling.

Can we opt for different tiles in our home?

Definitely – mixing and matching different tile styles, colours, textures and sizes to create a certain style are more popular than ever! Even mixing tiles with timber floors or carpet flooring is also making a comeback in modern contemporary homes.
